CampusEAI Consortium Governance
The CampusEAI Consortium Executive Advisory Committee guides the Consortium's Executive Director, Board and Leadership Team in prioritizing the strategic initiatives of the community.

Responsibilities of the Executive Committee:

  • Provide guidance to the Consortium's Executive Director
  • Provide guidance to the Consortium's committees and task forces.
  • Oversee and endorse all formal written Consortium position papers and/or recommendations.
  • Represent the Consortium at professional, university and federal forums.
  • Interact on behalf of the Consortium with external groups: Educause, Internet2 etc.

Chief Information Officer
Adelphi University

Jack Chen serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Adelphi University and oversees the Office of Information Technology and Resources. Since his appointment in 2002, he has been in the forefront of developing and expanding instructional, multimedia and distance education technology. He also provides leadership in the areas of administrative computing, desktop support, user training, Web site design and network and telecommunication infrastructure.

Chen has brought many changes to Adelphi University and has fostered a collaborative approach to working with the campus constituents. He developed the first University-wide three-year strategic technology plan to provide the framework for incorporating both existing and emergent technology. He oversaw the expansion of the campus network and the deployment of campus-wide wireless network. In the spring 2005 ACUTA Journal, he was cited for his visionary efforts in integrating communication system within a Web portal. Chen works closely with the faculty in integrating a range of emergent technologies into the curriculum, including mandatory PDAs for nursing students, podcasting, Classroom Performance Systems (iClickers), digital video streaming servers, asynchronous learning and multimedia presentation tools. He increased the number of campus computer labs to give students broader access to programs that would enhance their education. He helped establish the Student Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) which encourages student involvement in technology initiatives. Chen negotiated with Real Networks in 2003 to make Adelphi one of the pioneer institutions in the nation to offer free online music download to students. He is involved in developing programs to encourage communication between the University and its alumni. Under Chen’s leadership, Adelphi University received the ComputerWorld’s Best Practices in Green IT Award in fall 2008.

Over the last few years, Chen has been active in formulating policy regarding campus e-mail distribution and computer-use policy. He has developed cyber security awareness programs for the campus and is working with campus constituents to create guidelines for best practice in the area of data security. Chen chairs the Web Policy Committee, Administrative Computing Committee and Student Technology Advisory Committee. He is a member of Faculty Senate Subcommittee on Information Technology.

Prior to joining Adelphi, Chen held various IT management positions in both the public and private sectors. He was the Director of Network and Administrative Systems at Barnard College of Columbia University. At Barnard, he led the team in revamping the campus-wide network infrastructure by deploying Cisco backbone and wireless network. He was instrumental in the development of computer-use policy. Prior to Barnard, he was the Director of Systems, Network and Database at the City University of New York (CUNY) Central Administration for over 15 years. During that period, he participated in the development of the CUNY Student Information Management Systems (SIMS) and oversaw the migration of mainframe to the distributing computing environment. He also led the team in the CUNY-wide data center consolidation project which resulted in savings of over $20 millions in operating cost. Chen worked as a system software engineer for NCR Corporation in San Diego and as a Senior Database Administrator for Manufacturers Hanover Bank in the early 1980s.

Chen is one of the founders of New York Higher Education Technology Forum and a member of CIO Council of the Long Island Software and Technology Network (ListNet). He also represents Adelphi University at the Educause and at the New York State CIO Constituent Group. In 2003, Chen received over $250,000 grant from the CampusEAI/Oracle to develop a campus Web portal (http://www.adelphi.edu). He presented Adelphi’s eCampus Web portal at the 2005 Educause annual conference in Orlando. Chen serves on CampusEAI Consortium Executive Advisory Board and has participated in many executive forums on current technology subjects.

Jack Chen holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Hunter College and an M.B.A. in Finance and Operations Management from Adelphi University.

Virginia Stewart manage the enterprise infrastructure for an institution of higher education serving more than 4000 students and 550 faculty/staff users’ resources.Ms. Stewart provide operational guidelines for performance, throughput and security of a WAN infrastructure including wireless network and VoIP. Ms. Stewart have successfully championed projects for Accreditation Readiness, Cybersecurity, Administrative Systems Replacement, Residence Life Wireless Upgrade, Video-Teleconferencing, Distance Education and Learning Spaces Redesign. Collaborate with Executive Cabinet, Deans and senior administrative managers to strengthen organization and infrastructure to provide world-class technical educational / administrative solutions. Ms. Stewart Provide technology vision and leadership with overall responsibility for management of IT, including strategic / technical planning, technology project governance, organizational management and development, software development, financial budgeting / control.

Michael Bourque has been working for Information Technology Services at Boston College for the past 5 years. Mike is responsible for ensuring that BC’s data center uses energy as efficiently as possible.  The data center is an important energy consumer by way of housing the complex hardware infrastructure that enables the University’s email, web access and other various computing needs.

Mr. Peter Quan is the Vice President for the Division of Information Technology Services and Chief Technology Officer at California State University, Los Angeles. As the VP/CTO, he is responsible for the campus information technology infrastructure, IT policy and planning, and IT security and data integrity compliance.

Mr. Quan is a member of the President’s Executive Officer Team, University Strategic Planning Committee, and the Resource Allocation Advisory Committee. He is Chair of the University Baseline Committee and co-chairs the University Web Services Committee.

Mr. Quan also serves as the campus designee on system-wide initiatives including the Information Technology Advisory Committee, CSU Benchmarking Project Task Force, and the Project Advisory Committee for the Common Management System. Other memberships have included the PeopleSoft Strategic Advisory Council, PeopleSoft Higher Education Product Advisory Council, and EDUCAUSE.

Anjli Jain is the Executive Director of the CampusEAI Consortium.

As the Executive Director, Ms. Jain is responsible for strategic planning, designing and administering membership planning, and coordinating the CampusEAI Consortium's core initiatives.

Prior to joining the CampusEAI Consortium, Ms. Jain was the Executive Director of a higher education not-for-profit organization focused on teaching, learning, and technology. She was responsible for providing program leadership and administering the resources of the association. Ms. jain guided the creation of a Web presence and an expansion of the association's programs in areas such as information literacy, public policy advocacy, networking with other higher education organizations, and strengthening opportunities for continuous learning.

Ms. Jain holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Barnard College, Columbia University.

Mohamed Seddiki

Dean of Information Technology & Chief Information Officer
Essex County College

Mohamed Seddiki is the Dean of Information Technology & Chief Information Officer at Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey. As Dean, he is responsible for managing the technology infrastructure of the institution’s computing environment which includes the main campus in Newark, the West Essex campus in West Caldwell, and the Police Academy in Cedar Grove.

Mr. Seddiki’s guiding principle is to employ technology to elevate the mission and goals of the college - an ideal which he has remained committed to since he was promoted to IT director sixteen years ago. As a result of Mr. Seddiki’s vision and technical acuity, the College’s infrastructure continues to remain on the cutting edge of technology. Always promoting the use of technology to improve business practices, Mr. Seddiki was responsible for implementing the College’s ERP system, Banner and successfully moved the College from a mainframe environment to a client-server environment many years ago. Institutional-wide cost-savings and major improvements in efficiency can largely be attributed to the automation of manual tasks and the deployment of systems where previously none existed, under Mr. Seddiki’s leadership.

Mr. Seddiki came to this country from Morocco at the age of nineteen, eager to pursue an education at Essex County College and faced with the challenge of learning a new language and culture. Despite these obstacles, he excelled in his studies and was quickly recognized by his professors as a technical talent. He was offered his first full time job at ECC in 1987 as an administrative aide for the Chapter One program. Since then, Mr. Seddiki has served the college in a number of different capacities including Coordinator of the Outreach Programs for the Community and Customized Programs, Associate Director of Academic Computing and Director of Technical Services.

Mr. Seddiki received his Associate’s degree in Computer Science from Essex County College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Jersey City State College. He received a Master of Science degree in Telecommunications and Computing Management from Polytechnic University.

Mr. Seddiki and his wife Fadoua, reside in West Caldwell and are the proud parents of Fahd, Zayed and Maryam.

Laurie Orzechowski

Laurie has over 26 years of experience in higher education, having worked her way up through many positions within Information Technology (IT): data processing specialist; computer programmer; senior analyst; project leader. She is currently the Director of Administrative Systems at Lourdes College and has held the position for the last eight years.

Laurie has been working with SunGard Higher Education products since 1998. As part of a very small IT staff, Laurie is very familiar with and supports, most of the modules in Banner, including Accounts Receivable, Finance, Financial Aid, General, Human Resources/Payroll and Student.

Laurie has presented at Summit several times over the past eleven years; in a variety of different modules. She has also presented at her local Midwest SETA conference. She has attended three Executive Summits. She has past experience serving on the SCT SunGard advisory board for three years; being the small schools representative.

Dr. Lori Temple is currently the Vice Provost for Information Technology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, a position she has held since 1998. With the assistance of the three directors of the units within the Office of Information Technology, she serves as the Chief Information Officer for the university.

Over 95 full-time employees and 125 student employees in Dr. Temple’s office support UNLV’s help desks, computer facilities, network development and engineering, server administration, security and enterprise applications, such as e-mail and online course management tools.

Temple has led UNLV through many successful change initiatives. In 2008, Temple restructured her unit in order to implement a new student information system at UNLV, a system that will serve as the model for several higher education institutions in Nevada. In 2009, as state funding decreases, Temple continues to explore ways to maximize university resources, such as expanding distance education tools and improving communications about technology services.

In a previous life, she was an Associate Professor of Psychology at UNLV and did research on the affects of aging on driving ability. She came to UNLV in 1984 from Brown University where she earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology.
